About this workshop

In this session Duncan considers why some organisations still use ineffective techniques and how they could start to improve their risk management arrangements. Using examples from his own career as a risk engineer in the oil industry and Chief Risk Officer for a local authority in Scotland, Duncan discusses some of the improvements made along with obstacles faced, and how he went about overcoming them.

Duncan Harwood

Duncan Harwood has served as an army officer, as risk engineer on a multi-billion dollar oilfield project, as regional resilience coordinator for the Scottish Government, and Chief Risk Officer for the City of Edinburgh Council. He holds two engineering degrees and an MBA. A former national chess champion, Duncan has considerable experience taking the right risks at the right time in order to make good decisions and achieve winning outcomes.
